Do you ever listen to your users?

STOP making all of these stupid visual changes. I did not sign up with YNAB for you to change all the visual flags every single week. By far, this app is the worst app I have ever used. I only use the desktop app because the app that you force upon us is so badly designed that it is inferior to my workflow. Rather than ask us for ideas about what we would like to see, why don’t you just roll back all of the changes you’ve made over the past five years?
The best

I love this app. I have a clear picture of my financial situation.
Does the job, but kind of complicated to use

This app can be very helpful for budgeting, but if you’re new to it, it’s kind of complicated. It caters well to those getting out of debt, but not to those who use credit cards without carrying a balance. I didn’t see a tutorial, but if there is one, it should be more obvious. Genuinely LOVE that it notifies you of transactions that need to be categorized and that it summarizes your spending for you to reflect on.

I have been using YNAB for 5+yrs and I can’t imagine not having it! I’ve started my friends and family on it and they’re hooked too. It’s helped me manage, plan, save, and keep my head above water during stressful times. Highly recommend to everyone no matter where you are in your journey!
In Control

YNAB has put me in control of my finances. Even if I don’t technically use it to stay on budget, it is essential to know where my money is going. And it’s extremely satisfying to get 30+ days ahead of my expenses.
Great but…

YNAB is mostly great as a budgeting tool. This latest update though broke a lot of buttons in the app. Tapping on ready to assign does nothing. Same with some other buttons. Please fix the app. iPhone 13 mini.
Worth the learning curve

I was BAD with money. Now I’m on top of it and setting/achieving savings goals all thanks to the way YNAB makes you think about money. You have granular clarity of all of your expenses and can customize categories and goals to your needs. Now, there was a learning curve. It took me about 4 months, maybe more, before I felt completely clear and on top of it. There are just some things that are confusing and/or you need to realize first. First and foremost: ALWAYS INPUT AN EXPENSE YOURSELF AT THE TIME OF THAT EXPENSE - waiting for the expense to show up automatically later will wind up screwing up your balances and budget - their automatic import system is not always perfect and can be very delayed, causing your budget to get out of whack if you’re not paying close attentions. And that leads to the second: ALWAYS PAY CLOSE ATTENTION. This is the magic of YNAB. If you are dedicated to leveraging it and learning it, then you will realize that this isn’t about making your financial life easier. Not a “set it and forget it” tool. ITS A TOOL THAT FORCES YOU TO OBTAIN A GRANULAR AND CLEAR VIEW OF YOUR MONEY. To be the master of your money. To help you pay closer attention to it. YNAB is merely a robust, and relatively easy (for what you get) tool to gain this clarity over your finances. You need to learn and be on top of it. And that’s the whole point. There are great YouTube videos out there with tutorials and also videos and seminars on the YNAB site. Plus the customer support has been satisfactory. Last thing I’ll say is, don’t be afraid to start fresh with a budget. To wipe it clean and go again. As I was learning about YNAB, I kept trying to salvage the budget as it got wonky from things that I didn’t properly understand. I started fresh in January with clarity and have been GREAT since. Hope this helps steer some of you to making the leap into YNAB. It’s categorically one of the best financial decisions I’ve ever made.
Too many features, not enough simplicity

I’ve been a loyal user for years and become increasingly annoyed by new features. The homepage is utterly useless, but I’ve come to just ignore it at this point the new transaction cards likewise don’t really add any novel value. The new plan reset is confusing after dismissing the original introduction to it, I was playing around with a little bit and accidentally deleted all of my targets, and the undo button for my plan didn’t seem to recover them. YNAB has been a fan favorite for years and I don’t think the reason for that was the addition of new features. It was the simplicity of the day-to-day workflow and the absolute utility of the system for making correct budgeting choices as a software developer myself, I can relate to the impulse to add every feature, especially now with AI and how easy it is to do so, but we really need to exercise discretion in keeping our apps, beautiful and function. I may stick around for a while longer to see if they come back, but we’ll start browsing around for an alternative unfortunately.
Thorough but demanding

While YNAB is a very comprehensive application for tracking and planning your financial activities, I found it a bit more overwhelming than I originally thought. It proved to require a lot more setup and maintenance for my needs. The interface is also very busy and can be a challenge to navigate. If you’re someone who has a desire to actively track every single penny’s movements, this may be for you. I simply don’t have the time to be in the app constantly replanning and categorizing my financial affairs and need something a bit more passive with simple, accurate presentation. Rocket Money is my next option.
Formerly great. More annoying these days.

This app used to be great and I used to love it very much. I wish the product team would stop trying to “improve” things all the time. It seems like I need to adapt to some new page or feature that only adds more steps to the process of adjusting my budget. Will probably follow the lead of a couple of my friends and switch to Zerosum soon, as it feels like good, old YNAB - at a cheaper price, nonetheless.
