  • Excellent dictation 80% of the time, but still very glitchy

OK, when this app works, it’s still the best of the paid dictation apps I’ve come across, better at least than Apple and Google. But it’s got a number of glitches that I’ve been meaning to tell the developers about for a long time, in case they don’t know: One, the app takes seemingly forever, in a modern sense, to load a new file for dictation, sometimes taking 20 or 30 seconds. Two, toggling between subject line of a file, and the body of the file takes a bizarre 3 to 5 seconds. Three, if you ever have to type something via the keyboard that pops up in the app, to add something or clarify, something that you’re dictating, get ready for a shockingly slow experience, I’m talking about something like one to three seconds per single letter entry, slower than a typewriter. Four, the app has major issues and has had for the last one or two years, with Bluetooth pairing. It used to, three or four years ago, give the user a sound when Bluetooth was paired or unpaired. But now, for those of you who may like to walk while dictating, or just pace around and not glance at the screen, constantly, there is no warning given when Bluetooth unpaired. This is really important because the quality of your headset really matters if you have background noise, and so the dictation can go from quite good to absolute garbage without warning you that it’s converted to garbage mode. The only reason I stick with this app still, and prefer it to Google, an apple, is it there is no timing out feature so you can dictate, as long as the above conditions are met, relatively freely for 20 or 30 minutes or longer without interruption, as long as you don’t have pauses of silence greater than 30 to 60 seconds. I’m not sure of the exact clock out time but you do have to watch the app to confirm you’re still dictating, if you’ve been quiet for a while. If the developers could please fix these above problems, my rating would improve dramatically, and I think the popularity of this app, and therefore the revenue and brand recognition, would also improve concomitantly. thank you for reading this review, which I wrote via Apple iPhone dictation :-)
  • New sign on process is a nightmare

Extremely abusive to thier customers, who should receive at least a free month for their “inconvenience.” Also, the App now refuses to send a document by email — the screen just flickers and it doesn’t send.

This could be the worst app I have ever used. The dictation transcription was mostly fine, but the app lost the connection to dropbox. Impossible to reconnect. I emailed support – no response. That makes sense considering most of the reviews for the last year or two are 1 or 2 stars. Until the recent problems with the app, I used the service regularly. I finally gave up and canceled my subscription. Way to go Dragon - you lost a formerly loyal customer.
  • Incompetent

I have tried for almost 2 years to resolve difficulties with this app. Originally I used it on android, but even then, when you choose the manage subscription from within the app, it takes it to a website. It won’t let you login with your app login. there’s no communication between the website and the app as far as I can tell. I got rid of it and use the separate email, but again after one year, there is no ability to renew the subscription. I got an email from some bizarre made up email attached to my account. I’ve spoken with support people over 14 times. I simply will not use this ever again and will encourage my colleagues to use alternative dictation apps.
  • BAD THINGS HAVE HAPPENED TO THIS COMPANY

I used Dragon about four years ago and loved it. I dictated hours of successful material and got very comfortable with the app. Unfortunately, I had to cancel my subscription because it was too expensive at the time. Recently, I decided to resubscribe and BAD THINGS HAVE HAPPENED TO THIS COMPANY. I have jumped through days of hoops and sketchy holds to get help with an absolutely ridiculous technical glitch preventing me from registering my license and actually using the app. Intra-departmental communication is abysmal, and there are a lot of artificially padded timelines that do nothing but make it seem as though Nuance is doing something when in fact they are kicking the ball down the road hoping you’ll go away. Simplify the process and allow subscriptions through the app for all users, even returning ones who originally subscribed online. In short. I recommend you choose one of the clunkier, cheaper apps or just take your chances with Siri. Nuance/Dragon support is incompetent in every way.
  • Find a better competitor-that’s my next step

Convoluted implementation process, inability to link to Dropbox, and errors when trying to manage the subscription. Oh, and it does a poor job of speech recognition. I had always heard that Dragon was the gold standard and so I ignored the reviews. I advise you to heed the reviews.

Couldn’t even email myself a test paragraph. Got errors every time. Worthless.
  • Reliability is a problem

Very good when it doesn’t decide to stop recognizing speech. This happens with annoying increased frequency. Rebooting helps for 5 minutes.
  • Can’t even log in

I wasn’t even able to complete an account set up or login, but they still charged me and started a subscription that I have to cancel and request a refund for. In my experience, nuance has had great speech, recognition products, but their backend seems to be just too full of cruft to be reliable.

Same issues that everyone else has put. It actually works pretty well until it stops working (which happens often). Customer support won’t respond to you.
