Description

The perfect app to teach your kids about money through completing chores and working towards goals. Don’t listen to us, listen to those that fell in love with it. “I love that the Homey not only encourages kids to develop a strong work ethic, but it teaches kids how money is earned, encourages long-term goal setting, instills real life financial skills, and connects the whole family with a fun approach to paid chores.” Crystal, MoneySavingMom “Homey is a great organizational tool for families!” Best Apps for Kids “Homey helps remind my children what jobs they haven’t done yet, so I don’t need to. It even inspires them to work a little harder to earn allowance. Better yet, they are learning to save up that allowance for a bigger reward.” Gloria, JugglingMother “A picture says a thousand words. And with Homey, those words are “this is the chore you’re supposed to be doing right now.” Snap a photo of your kid’s unmade bed and send it to them with a deadline, and then they can send a photo back once it’s taken care of.” Fatherly Features: - set daily, weekly or monthly recurring or one time chores for the whole family - set chores that are responsibilities and you won't pay for, and jobs to teach kids how to earn money or rewards - manage allowance and extra money rewards for each child - transfer allowance to a bank account (US only), or mark it as payed out in cash - track IOU - add or remove funds from wallet - set saving jars with financial goals - kids learn to manage their funds - Homey syncs across all devices in the household SHOW KIDS HOW MONEY IS EARNED With Homey you can pay kids commissions based on chores they do around the house like taking out the trash, cleaning their room, or mowing the grass. And you can also set responsibilities that are required to teach kids that everyone needs to contribute to the household. SUPPORT LONG-TERM GOALS AND SAVING Teach kids delayed gratification and financial responsibility by providing them with incentives that differ in value. With Homey kids learn they need to work longer or harder to earn more. TEACH REAL LIFE FINANCIAL SKILLS Homey enables you to transfer allowance and money kids earn directly to their savings or checking account or tracks the money as IOU and pay it out in cash. This way you can teach your child how banking works, they can accumulate interests on their savings and you can be sure that their money will stay safe. By subscribing to Homey Monthly or Homey Yearly you'll get access to other great features like: Unlimited family members. Connecting your bank account and safely transferring allowance and chore money directly to your child's savings account. Multiple saving jars for each child. I like this app and have an annual subscription. It is better than any other option I’ve seen out there. As mentioned by another review it is a little pricey for what you get. If the bank connection feature is what drives the cost then I would split that out. Have a free / low cost version that doesn’t include that part and a higher cost version that does. I just use the wallets and then when my kids want to spend money it comes out of my account (and is deducted from their wallet in Homey). The other major issue with this app is the UI. It isn’t really intuitive. It has taken me a while to figure out exactly how to deduct money when my kids buy something (first you reduce the amount from the Jar and then reduce the amount from the wallet...and add a note for what the spending was on). That’s too cumbersome. Another issue with the UI relates to jobs and responsibilities. I understand how it works, but it isn’t super intuitive either. Finally, the input for funds received or spent is terrible. I have to keep tapping to get all the way to $100 if my kid gets that for Christmas. And I can’t specify an exact amount either. Have to do it multiple times to get to an exact amount if it isn’t a whole dollar amount. Awful input method. I would also like a reminder for me if my kids didn’t mark off their responsibilities for the day. I think they get reminders, but they don’t pay attention or the reminders aren’t at a convenient time. More control there would be great.
  • I Tried Signing Up, Could Not Use

This app looked very promising for me. I signed up immediately. However, I could not sign up properly. I put my email, and I got a loading error. When I tried again with a different email, I got the same error and could not use either email to log in. Overall I’m disappointed that I couldn’t use this app.

I think the idea is good, but it is very pricey. I read that the price point has to do with the bank feature. Why then are they charging for features like chore approval, etc? Seems they could isolate the charge solely for folks who choose to connect bank accounts. We are already happily set up on a banking app for our teen and don’t feel the need to utilize that feature. I’m also frustrated that I’ve tried several times to create my own packs, but they never show up later. I don’t want to have to input the same job each time I assign it (for jobs that don’t recur on a regular schedule). It would be much easier to simply choose it from a pre-made pack that is unique to our family. All in all, seems like there are still a few bugs to work out.
  • So frustrating!

I’m about to go insane just trying to set everything up. The app is so slow and buggy! It keeps crashing on me. I’m on the latest apple hardware too. Bank integration is so sloppy. UI is nice UX is terrible. I plan on running this on two iPhone and two kindles, so it is nice it is on both platforms, but I wish it were written as a PWA so that it behaved the same in both and I could use it on my computer. Also, if it is the bank integration that keep the price point high, could you offer a plan without the bank integration? it is kind os pointless. I tried to add my 16 yo daughter’s account, but it said I can’t because she isn’t 18.
  • Great, but lots of room for improvement.

This is a great app, but it lacks some basic functionality that has me on the fence with my subscription. I will probably cancel soon as the shortcomings are not worth dealing with when paying monthly. - Support for negative balances in wallets; I.e. being overdrawn. - Ability to edit/remove log entries. I have lots of erroneous entries while learning how to use the app and there is no way to remove them aside from possibly resetting the entire family. - Removing wallet funds should default to either a negative number or simply a positive amount that will be removed; currently, it will add funds if a negative value is not specified. - Ability to change the decision status for tasks between "denied" and "missed".

We started this app as a way to keep track of chores, but the ability to manage allowance is great as well. We dont require chores to get allowance in our family, but its been really great that Homey is able to adjust to our system as well.
  • Great concept but buggy

Don’t even try using jars, the overlays will never dismiss, necessitating force quitting over and over. Then it made 3 copies of my jars? But if you try to delete them... stuck overlay and force quit... what a mess. Again, this app has some great thinking behind it, now the code base needs to catch up. You also can’t do any jobs before all responsibilities are complete for the day. Sounds good in theory? Unless a responsibility is to brush your teeth before bed, set 30 before bedtime. Then it’s literally impossible to ever do jobs...
  • Love it

I feel this app is teaching kids that saving money takes time, and that they need to wait and work hard to get good things. It's really visual, and the kids love it. I am missing some features like the ability for parents to add interests on their kids saving, but I really like where this app is going.

My kids HATE chores, and I have to nag all the time. This app was recommended to me, and I was skeptical, but so far my kids are doing chores without me saying anything. Pretty great.

This app has been such a great help for our family of 5. Other apps are either too adult, or too childish, but Homey is perfect. My 7 year old, and my two teenagers, all use it almost daily, and it's great to keep track of allowance. Great app
