The feature film, “Hidden Figures,” inspired this Augmented Reality app and brings to life virtual statues of the film’s compelling characters - Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson and Dorothy Vaughan. In the 1950s, these incredible women helped NASA launch the U.S. into space with their calculations. Use this Augmented Reality app to discover the remarkable contributions made by these women and others. Grab your phone and explore your city with Augmented Reality to uncover these influential stories! - Atlanta - Boston - Chicago - Dallas - Houston - Los Angeles - New York City - Philadelphia - San Francisco - Washington D.C. Users not located in these cities can learn more about these inspiring women directly on the app. This app was produced in partnership with IBM. Update: In the previous update they fixed the location of the KSC pin by moving it to an area accessible to the general public near the Visitors Center. But the new update today moved the KSC pin BACK to the swampy wilderness area that has restricted access to the general public. Move it back!!! ...the pin on the map for the Kennedy Space Center in Florida is in the middle of an inaccessible forest/swamp area. I can see what happened - if you view KSC in Google Maps, they have a pin for KSC in exactly the same spot. The developers of this app must have relied on Google Maps to provide their locations, without regard to whether or not the areas are accessible. Besides being in an area with rugged terrain, that area is off-limits to the general public. A better choice for the KSC pin would have been the Visitors Center here. As an app developer myself, I hate it when users report problems via reviews, but the app has no mechanism for providing feedback.
  • Great movie, good app concept, but locations need to be checked for accessibility.

The geozone at the IBM Research Center in Almaden is gated and only employees are allowed to enter. The Tech Museum knows nothing about it.
  • Awesome!

This is a really clever way to bring to light scientists that have really contributed to humanity but never received the recognition they deserved. Very cool!
