VRBO has scammers posing as hosts. They allow these “hosts” to bait and switch rates, rules, and cancellation policies. VRBO doesn’t perform enough due diligence on the property managers and hosts. Avoid VRBO at all costs.

We have traveled extensively both in the USA and Europe with VRBO properties. Do your homework, check out the properties, email the owners, and you will have amazing places to stay. We’ve had only great experiences.

I’m sure many have had amazing experiences with their rentals. I made the mistake of not researching the listing I rented well enough and ended up in a sketchy and dangerous part of town in a city I wasn’t familiar with. The other warning signs should’ve been the nightly rental was cheap but the management fees from the rental, not even VRBO, amounted to nearly 50% of the rental itself. Which I guess is why it was listed so cheap. In pinch with nowhere to go I use a different service to book a hotel in a nice area. Once settled in I contact VRBO through chat and they tell me they have no way to help because of the owner policy for that rental. Ok… once I’m done entertaining my kids on a short vacation and make it back home I call VRBO to see if there is ANY sort of way to help me, any thing at all they would be willing to do to help someone who experienced a poor situation. Again I was basically flat out told no, not policy. I was going to explain the drive I took to get there and the city I was in, so I asked if the rep was in the US. She admitted no. She already had become somewhat short with me but the longer the conversation went on and the more I tried to explain the issue the more rude she became. Even at times telling me I wasn’t using logic for not following policy I was never made aware of. So called solutions that were never stated in the numerous emails I received before during and after the trip. At first she argued THAT. But once she realized I was right she became even more perturbed with me. Now I could tell it was just going to become a standoff to see who could make the other more upset. I told her I was disappointed and hung up. Before this phone call, I received an email from VRBO stating they couldn’t post my review of the rental due to no records of my stay. WHAT?! I’ve got my check in email, my check out email, my financial charges emails. THEY ARE ACTIVELY BLOCKING POOR REVIEWS. They simply don’t care. Back to AirBnB

Customer service for hosting issues is a joke. Nobody can help after multiple calls if they ever answer the phone. Update: finally reached out to me to try and resolve issues. Really? A little late now.. If I could remove the 1 star I would. As a host and traveler, I’ll stick with AirBnB.

I received a message that my booking was not going to be available and I can not get ahold of the host! I contacted support and their suggestion was to contact the person in charge of the property! Duh! That’s what I’ve tried to do! Useless!

Love VRBO, it’s so easy!

I would never stay in this rental again. Dirty, broken, flooring, shower hardware feel off in my hand and sheets are thin and grey from use. When the Kasa group asked for a review I told them and sent photos, but afterwards and three nights later they sent me a charge for $250 saying I got blood on the sheets which is absolutely false.

Rented a cabin in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. We got to the cabin and had no hot water, no working hot tub and we could get no help at all. Went 4 days with little to no hot water (5 minute warm showers then took 2 hours to reheat, not enough warm water to even fill the jacuzzi tub to the jets), hot tub was fixed after 2 days. The maintenance guy was great and said the hot water heater sucked and they knew about it but did nothing to fix it. Advertised to sleep 10. Lol. Very poor experience and VRBO did nothing. I hate Air b&b but I’m going to use them for future messes.
