  • Great product, I think it could be better

I’m still trying to work this out. I *really* want to use it with my iPhone as my camera and my iPad as my controller, but there’s no approved way to install a .dmg file on my iPad, so that won’t work. If anyone from the OBS team is reading this, I would suggest creating a companion app (maybe name it “OBS Studio Controller” or something) which would allow users to connect their iOS devices via USB and use one device to control the technical details and streaming of the video feed from the other. Even better would be to add the “studio” function into the existing app and allow users to determine which USB connected device they want to use as a camera and which to use as the control device. I think either would improve the usability of the OBS app for iOS. Maybe it would work for android devices as well.

Using my iPhone as a webcam is great and all, but I was really after the NDI streaming. Didn’t take much effort to get that working, so I don’t have any complaints there at all. Only thing that had me on the fence between 4 and 5 stars was support for my external mic. I saw some comments about Bluetooth mic support but I’m using a Rode VideoMic Go II, which doesn’t appear to be detected by this app. Ultimately I decided it’s not a dealbreaker. The flexibility to slap relatively cheap, commodity hardware onto a gimbal, hand it to someone, and say “here, run around and capture some cool footage” while flipping between the sources in OBS is what makes this worth it.

I use this to stream from multiple iPhone cameras each Sunday for Church using a wired connection via OBS and it’s solid. I’ve learned to start iTunes first and give it a moment to backup the phones… and to “trust them”…. (all are on the same I tuned account) for best results. I’ve tried wireless with NDI, but for me it still doesn’t match wired. Totally recommended for Churches or anyone looking to livestream on a budget.

If you are wanting to get started on your content creation before you spend big dollars on a camera, this is a great option. I have to say that the watermark is a bit over the top. If the watermark was changed to something that could actually let you use the app, I’d give 5 stars. Limited features is understandable.. a watermark that makes it unusable is not
  • Mediocre for an app that makes subscribing mandatory

The audacity of these devs💀 it’s my phone and computer that I pay for, yet I need to pay a monthly-yearly fee just to use my own camera without a massive blinking watermark. It doesn’t even use data if you connect through usb so why is this a thing? Most blatantly obvious money grab ever like just let me use the camera I worked for it has no effect on you.
