I have been trying out the 7 day free trial and very frustrated because it’s not actually a free trial, it is a we will show you one free thing a day and then everything else that looks interesting and you click on we will tell you to give us $100 trial. Only one of the free offers piqued my interest so I have to base my review off of one thing (which isn’t ideal but also should have been foreseeable to the app creators). The format wasn’t that inspiring for me. I love podcasts but hate most audiobooks because I am a speech & debate coach so audiobooks tend to trigger the coaching part of my brain and I focus too much on what feedback I’d provide to a speech student and lose sight of what’s being said. That being said I thought the reading option would still work for me and be a great alternative to my current read one chapter a morning practice. The reading design was very bland though, it felt a lot like reading on my kindle but in such a shortened context and nothing to illustrate the concepts it feels like a confusing chore. I ended up listening to one of the free reads while I was driving and it helped that I could speed up the audio (which helps get me out of director mode), but as I type this I can’t even remember what the book was—thankfully I took a screenshot of the most poignant paragraph so I can go back and put it in my notes. Had I had a true free week to explore all the app has to offer I may have found something redeeming about it. I really wanted to try out the feature that syncs it with my kindle to see what that’s about. I have been purchasing both the kindle version and audible version of books I read to be able to extend my reading time to my commute and I was hopeful this app could replace buying the audible of every book I read and help me identify the books I want to take a deeper dive into. I had planned on buying this but got another app with a 7 day free trial and have loved it but it doesn’t have an audio component for driving. I would suggest the app creators look at some of the competition and see how they’re packaging the reading experience so you can provide a better app. They utilize a scrolling feature similar to social media where each concept of a book is like a post. That app has quickly become my most used app this week, especially because nearly half of the ideas are accompanied by a visual of some kind. This has allowed me to more easily understand the concepts presented in short format. This other app also allowed me what so far looks like unlimited access to the app for a full week. I have “read” multiple books and saved at least 140 ideas to discuss with my students. And I would have been much more likely to purchase Blinkist even with the less desirable reading format had I been able to really get into using the app. I didn’t really connect with the free options. Some of them were concepts I was already familiar with or that I might be interested in but just wasn’t in the mood for that day. In this user's opinion your “free trial” is hurting your sales. Give people a truly free trial and I bet you find more people who love the app and buy it.

I like it because it is short.

I cancelled on the app, never got any notice email about the free trial expiring and then was charged for a yearly subscription. I’ve disputed the charges with Apple and my bank to no avail. I’m so disappointed, it’s not a bad app I just realized I would rather hear the whole book because I couldn’t pay attention in the way they read it. Now I feel like I have to use it since I paid over $100 for something that feels like a scam. Overall I wouldn’t use the free trial if I were you- if it isn’t your cup of tea you won’t get your money back.

Beware a lot of people may like this app but if you have a problem they will not help. I am still waiting for a refund from January and there is no phone number to talk to a person. I am stuck waiting in vain for anyone to help.

If you can ignore the Woke nonsense sneakily smuggled in, making this a daily habit will definitely make you smarter.
