I guess my main problem is it under explains the reasons for a lot of the rules and just moves on without allowing me to get familiar enough with the previous lessons. Also, when selecting a letter or word that Babble has offered up on the screen you have to tap it several times for it to register if it registers at all. I couldn’t even finish one of the lessons because it wouldn’t allow me to select the letters. It doesn’t matter if it’s on my iPhone or iPad it’s really hard to get the letter/word to register. This is not the case with any other app or texting. I’m only a couple weeks in but there’s no way I’ll be having anything that resembles a conversation within a month. Just saying…they over promise a bit. And that is from an educated fairly intelligent person. I gave it three stars because I’ve only had it for 2 -3 weeks, and maybe there’s a big aha moment coming, so I have to give it a chance. However I don’t exactly have high hopes at this point.

I purchased a year subscription to this today and I cannot open any of the lessons. Keep getting a message. Oops retry I have reset my iPad and all I can do with this app is review six different phrases. Very disappointing.

  • Voice recognition is poor

This app has potential. I got it because the voice rec on Duolingo is terrible. Babbel started out well. It now refuses to recognize even the simplest of words and phrases. There’s no mechanism to reach the people responsible for this app. Extremely disappointing. And rapidly becoming not very useful.

I switched from Duolingo to Babbel in hope that I wold learn a more relevant vocabulary (“The snake drinks the milk” hardly ever comes up in conversation). After 4 months with Babbel, the most important things I have learned to say are “Non parlo italiano. Parli inglese?” I have switched to Rocket Italian and am very pleased with it.

I’m using Babbel to learn Spanish but I find it very difficult! The program goes too fast and doesn’t give you time to memorize the words! I may be doing something wrong but I don’t think so. It’s not rocket science.
