  • Kurbo is great, but could be a little better.

I’ve recently started using Kurbo. And while I love using the app, there are a few things I would add if I have a choice. Although I love the idea of logging my meals, and it has shown me that I eat too much sometimes, where do I find my progress on dies, exercise, or overall weight? That’s one of the reasons I when looking of an app anyways. And for another thing, same for exercise what is the point of counting exercise if I don’t get results? The app is pretty great other than that.

ok all, it’s time for me to write a review i’m 14 now, i used this app when i was 9-11 i believe. i was a perfectly normal child. average weight, slightly tall, but very athletic. this caused my bmi to be in the “overweight “ or borderline overweight category. looking back on it now, i was a highly anxious, extremely troubled kid. i had crippling body dysmorphia, severe anxiety, and later went on to develop depression, self harm behaviors, and an eating disorder. when i found out about this app when i was 8 or 9, i was already engaging in eating disorder behaviors (restricting and purging at the time). i was so intensely anxious about being considered overweight (thanks to all of the percentile charts and bmi charts for kids) that i begged my mom to let me download the app and pay for a subscription. my mom at the time had no idea i was already doing behaviors or that i was already so anxious, as i was 8 years old, so she let me download it. i used the app religiously, and i don’t remember much of it or what i talked to my “coach” about. i do remember it definitely impacted my perception of food, body image, and what foods were okay for me to eat. the “red food, yellow food, green food” system was probably the most harmful part for me. already coming into it with terrible body image and being highly anxious, someone who is older than you who you look up to telling you that these foods you need to eat more, these foods you need to eat less is a recipe for disaster. even if your child is not anxious or does not struggle with body image, you’re rolling a dice and hoping this won’t impact them in the same way it did me. the other thing that most bothers me with it is the “coaches”. again, i was 9 when i used this app so i don’t remember much. my coach was a woman who i remember was really nice, and probably helped me some with body image when we had our video sessions. just because i got lucky with my coach doesn’t mean everyone did. i specifically remember one of the options for traits in a coach being “tough love”. i can’t imagine how much harm it would have caused me to literally have someone telling me straight up i needed to lose weight and eat healthy at 9 years old. i know some may think that i’m saying that this app causes eating disorders. that’s not true. but i’m not saying this app doesn’t cause eating disorders either. there are many causes and roots of eds and all mental illness, and they are very complex. however, for me this app for sure played a role in the development of my eating disorder.

I am a teenage cheerleader who has struggled with staying fit, this app has helped me so much, but I do have one note that I would like to be improved upon. I’d like it off the app let you scan the barcodes on food instead of manually typing it all in
  • App does not work

I have been trying to use this app for 2 hours and cannot get anywhere. It keeps not loading or giving an error message. I am using this because it was meant to be a benefit from work. I will be providing feedback to our benefits team that this is unacceptable.
