  • Great app - fantastic for exploration!

Please read the entire review! This app is great and one-of-a-kind: any similar apps in terms if tracking require a subscription fee that is simply not worth it. Yes, a $30 price is expensive at first, but it is absolutely worth it. As someone who travels VERY often, it’s so cool to be able to see everywhere I visit. I’ve been using the app for 6 months now, and can speak on its functionality. I would say the cons are as follows: phone battery drain will be noticeable (I lose ~10% through FOW on a 14 Pro Max), if you forget to load the app every once in a while tracking will stop, and it is difficult to remove unwanted tracks. However, it needs to be taken into account that this app is 15 years old (meaning it has a history and is unlikely to be deleted). Furthermore, there are external websites and tools to delete unwanted lines (or add if you want). At the end of the day, it comes down to this: if you are interested in seeing your map fill up, it’s worth it. Whenever I go for a drive, boat ride, or hike, I am always conscious of not only tracking potentially new lines, but exploring new places and seeing new sights! If you have $30 to spend, it’s better than any game you will ever play as an adult!

The app is never properly syncing. I’d say it’s correctly logged 25% of my actual travel data. Great in concept but poor execution.

My partner and I use this app and enjoy it for what it is, but it needs stops tracking every couple days. We always have to turn off the tracking and turn back on. As a result we end up with really spotty data. It also drains the phone battery, but that’s to be expected as it constantly pings the gps.

This app is pretty cool. It lets you know where you travel, I think it's interesting just to see what roads I DON'T drive on. It shows what parts of town i go through, and where i avoid. I think $5 is a bit much, but I bought it anyway because whatever, someone gave me a credit card.

    添加一個軌跡擦除功能,用於擦除由於GPS不穩定導致的軌跡飄移部分。

I love Fog of World and have been using it since 2015. But the current version is consuming an unacceptable amount of my phone’s battery. In the past 24 hours, iOS reports that Fog of World is the biggest consumer of power on my phone, totaling +35% of the total battery usage using background location services. iPhone 13 Pro Max running iOS 17.3
  • Great, but proprietary…

My thoughts after using Fog of World for 12 years: (these are supposed to be bulleted lists, sorry if Apple messes up the formatting) Pros - Good at what it does - Offers backup options (caveat below) - Looks good - Encourages me to explore and take alternate routes - Beyond the cool/fun factor, I *frequently* make use of this app to see where I’ve been for practical reasons! - I’ve looked and found no other app that accomplishes the same thing even half as well Cons - Price tag is more than most iOS apps - Data is locked in a proprietary format and cannot be extracted! If this app ever gets abandoned and breaks on newer devices, there is no way to rescue your data - Battery usage is noticeable (but fairly well optimized) Overall, I highly recommend getting and using an app like this! I wouldn’t necessarily recommend *this* one, but I’m not aware of any others that are even slightly competent.
