  • Picking up a nest protect system is enough to make you put a gun to your head

How has Nest and Google made it so incredibly difficult to get nesta online and keep them online? After spending hours doing so when a Nest gets old it fails and brings down the whole system. Just thinking about going back to the unconnected fire and carbon monoxide alarms so so much.
  • Comically bad integration

I decided to upgrade my security cameras and went with Google/Nest so that I could have one app to run all the other other Nest items in my house, including thermostat and smoke detectors. Unfortunately, the new Google/Nest cameras do not work on the same app as the old Nest equipment, also for some reason Google has stripped away a bunch of the features like programming when cameras turn off and on that was available on the old app. If I had realize this before I installed them, I would’ve returned them and gone with a different company and saved money.
  • Slow cameras

Extremely slow loading cameras. It's not worth loading unless you want to wait. You may as well just view history.
  • Terrible for viewing video history

Two stars because technically the video history for nest cam indoor and outdoor (both latest generation) is viewable, but scrolling through the video history results in the video never loading more than half the time. The solution is to close the app (swipe away) and then try again. This is a long running issue. Google, if you’re reading this, please fix!
  • Run far away from Google and Nest products

Google Home app and Nest products cannot perform the main function of smart products-connection to your home’s WiFi network. My Nest hub, Nest mini speakers, Nest cameras and Home compatible plugs all take turns going offline. They all take extraordinary amounts of effort to get them to reconnect. I have 2 Nest mini speakers that have permanently rejected the WiFi password on setup. They are now bricks. I can set up other devices (eventually) but not the mini speakers! WTH? The wired doorbell camera has decided it is operating on battery and no longer records continuously “to save battery”. My floodlight/camera combo isn’t “reachable” on the network if I ask for the light using voice command but I can operate it using the app? It makes no sense whatsoever. Do NOT waste your money and sanity on Google Home or Nest products. Save yourself and get Ring or any other smart devices.
  • Worst response, worst service

No, my device is not slow and no my internet is not slow. WORST APP TO LOOK AT THE CAMERA IN URGENCY. JUST Install wired cameras that’ll never disappoint
  • Fails to configure Google Display

Only way I can find to restart process of installing the Display is to delete app and start over. When it fails (to get the device on the network) it doesn’t give next steps. It connected to the display, connected my phone to home network, but can’t get the display on the network. Google is a SW company, they shouldn’t do HW. This is my last remaining Google HW device. Looks like it goes to the trash… I won’t be fooled again (no matter how cool the HW seems).
  • Progress?

Interesting how years of development and supposed progress results in a way worse experience than the Nest app. Video feeds are slow and choppy and can’t be accessed in a browser. Historically this is a sign that Google is losing interest in a product. There are many, many, examples in the Google trash heap.
  • Update Made App Unusable

Have used this app for Wi-Fi and thermostat for 7 years with no problem. After the update last week it has become garbage. All devices lost. App won’t even pull up a keyboard on screen to let me log in.
